[4pp.]/pp.329/[1p.]/[2pp. - Adverts] . 8.5" x 4.75" x 1" [19.4cm x 12cm x 2.5cm]. Crimson cloth with a gilt image of a knight on horseback to the front board. Smooth spine with gilt titles and a gilt cross. Hinges and corners carefully strengthened. Yellow endpapers. Verso of front board with presentation label for Clifton School, from Sir A. V. Paton, with his heraldic book plate to the front free-endpaper. "Ex Libris Aluredi Vaughan Paton..." Dated 1923, designed by; "A. G. Law Samson Del.", and engraved by; "Lyon Court." dated 1930 William Stevens, printer, Bell Yard, Temple Bar. Half title with printer's details to verso: "William Stevens, printer, Bell Yard, Temple Bar.", followed by Printed title with engraved vignette. Clear English text, but with some underlining. Small binder's label to the recto of the rear board: "Bound By Remnant & Edmonds - London". ** " Kenelm Henry Digby (c1800-1880) was an Anglo-Irish writer born at Clonfert in Ireland, though he certainly did not regard himself as Irish. His reputation rests chiefly on his earliest publication, The Broad-Stone of Honour, or Rules for the Gentlemen of England (1822), which contains an exhaustive survey of medieval customs. The work was subsequently enlarged and issued (1828-29) in four volumes entitled: Godefridus, Tancredus, Morus and Orlandus, and then republished as separate works by Edward Lumley." - See wikipedia.
