About This Item

London: Duckworth & Co, 1916. First Edition. Hardcover. Good with no dust jacket/No Dustjacket. Pages clean except for two bookplates (front fixed endpaper and reverse of free endpaper), foxing up to the half-title and through the publisher's catalogue to the final endpapers, modest toning in margins throughout, and some dust staining along the head edges; binding is relaxed enough to show stitches between a few signatures, but remains square and secure; full red cloth cover is faded around front and rear boards, dimmed but with a few small, paler spots along the spine, somewhat softened and shelfworn at corners and spine ends, and bearing one small, clear, shiny adhesion on each board; otherwise sound and attractive. xiii, 205pp. + 16pp. publisher's list. Cunninghame Graham (1852-1936), MP, Scottish Labor Party, then first president of the Scottish National Party, later an Argentinian cattle rancher, traveler a la Lawrence of Arabia, member of a literary cohort including G.K. Chesterton, Ford Madox Ford, John Galsworthy, W.H. Hudson, and G.B. Shaw, and spouse of a French-Chilean poet, wrote primarily short, evocative fiction and travel sketches.
