About This Item

London: Peter Owen, 1965. Hardcover. Near Fine/Near Fine. Early English-language printing of the French writer's autobiography, an immediate best-seller praised by the likes of Genet and Camus, which details her numerous affairs with men and women, among them several members of the French literary elite. Translated by Derek Coltman, with a preface by Simone de Beauvoir. London: Peter Owen, 1965. Second printing, issued one month after the first. Octavo, 8-3/4 x 5-5/8 in. 469pp. Gray textured-paper boards; bronze spine lettering; dust jacket. Some minor outward bowing to boards. Light dust soiling to textblock top. Former owner's name penned neatly on the ffep, which shows some light foxing/offsetting. About near fine in a near fine, price-clipped jacket with a sticker ghost on front panel and some rubbing/creasing along front spine hinge.
