Four bound volumes of the Bulletin de la Societe Imperiale Zoologique D'Acclimatation, each bound in green cloth with red leather spine labels with titles stamped in gilt. Two of the volumes bear the bookplate of Lady Dorothy Nevill (name covered over with black crayon). Text in French. A few illustrations in each volume. First Volume: 1864. lxviii, 1-500, 709-804 pp. Includes articles about alpacas, fish eggs, the Siamese Crested Fireback, silkworms, and aquaculture. Second Volume: 1865. lxxix, 768 pp. Includes articles on horsemeat production, oyster farming, Arabian horses, gourami fish, pine trees, and Chinese-Merino sheep hybrids. Third Volume: 1865. lxxix, 608 pp. Includes articles on introducing beef cattle in the Rio de la Plata region, pheasants, cochineal bugs, and currasows. Fourth Volume: 1866. lxxx, 61-716 pp. Includes several articles about a fishing supplies exposition in Norway, chinchona trees, preservation of Chinese pigeons, and bird migration. The Societe Imperiale Zoologique d'Acclimatation was an early European academic society focused on nature conservation and continues work in the present day as the Societe Nationale de Protection de la Nature. Lady Nevill (1826-1913) was an horticulturist and acquaintance of Joseph Hooker, Charles Darwin, and James McNeill Whistler. ; 8vo 8" - 9" tall .
