About This Item

New York: G. P. Putnam's Sons, 1937. First Edition. Hardcover with Dust Jacket. Near Fine/Very Good+. Raymond Bishop. 8vo. Pp. x, 93. Prefatory note by William Lyon Phelps. Bound in green cloth with gilt device stamped on front board; gilt lettering and decoration on spine. Slight age-toning to edges of binding. In the illustrated dust jacket, price-clipped, with slight fading on spine. A bright copy. Jake Falstaff was the pen name of Herman Fetzer (1899-1935), the Ohio journeyman-writer who served as novelist, poet, and newspaper columnist. Published posthumously, this collection preserves his poetry, known for spontaneity and verve while sharing Whitman's affirmation of life.

The dust jacket illustration by Raymond Bishop brings to mind the lively dynamism of Artzybasheff. Dust jacket is now housed in a removable, clear archival sleeve.
