Illustration on front cover marred where sticker removal has apparently damaged it (see our photos). Very minor wear to edges and spine; small dark stain midway on spine. Previous owner's vintage bookplate affixed inside front cover. FFEP has been neatly removed. Pages toned. Binding square and tight.

ABOUT THE BOOK: The Burgess Animal Book for Children is a book about Peter Rabbit finding out about the animals around him in the Green Meadows and Green Forest. Old Mother Nature gets him under her wing and teaches him about her four-footed friends. Each day brings another story about one or two North American animals such as Grasshopper Mouse, Mountain Beaver, Flying Squirrel, and Grizzly Bear. Through these warmhearted stories, this book provides many amazing information about the wildlife in North America. 70+ color and b/w plates.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR: Thornton Waldo Burgess (January 14, 1874 – June 5, 1965) was a conservationist and author of children's stories. Burgess loved the beauty of nature and its living creatures so much that he wrote about them for 50 years in books and his newspaper column, Bedtime Stories. He was sometimes known as the Bedtime Story-Man. By the time he retired, he had written more than 170 books and 15,000 stories for the daily newspaper column.

ABOUT THE ILLUSTRATOR: Louis Agassiz Fuertes (February 7, 1874 – August 22, 1927) was an American ornithologist, illustrator and artist who set the rigorous and current-day standards for ornithological art and naturalist depiction and is considered one of the most prolific American bird artists, second only to his guiding professional predecessor John James Audubon.
