New York: Alfred A. Knopf, 1924. First American Edition. Octavo. 22.5cm. Publisher's bottle green cloth titled in gilt to spine. Lacking dustjacket. 372pp. Light wear to edges and spine ends, a little toning of the spine and dulling of the gilt. A very good, strong copy. Internally clean, fore-edge untrimmed, top edge a trifle dusty. Ink ownership of Ralph E. Flanders to front flyleaf, a US Senator for Vermont in the 1950's who took an anti-McArthy/HUAC stance on the grounds that it was distracting America from actual Communist threats by hunting down Hollywood actors. Scott began his career in South East Asia as a journalist, born in Fife in Scotland, but he swiftly rose to influence and is recognised today as having been profoundly instrumental in the imposition of British colonial rule over Burma.
