Wherever his new book goes this new year there will be abundant delight for hours of reading, and plenty to talk about by the evening fire. Toils and adventures, dangers, darings, and sufferings ..." (The Nonconformist, February 1856). Foolscap 8vo (18cm). viii,(472) + [xvi],32pp illustrated advertisements dated 1856 and February 1856 respectively. Twelve lively plates by Gustave Janet (1829-1898) and others. Original pictorial cloth gilt; a touch rubbed; slight fading and splashing to boards, but still a very good copy. Contemporary (1861) gift inscription to John Edward Oldfield from his Aunt Emma.
