About This Item
20 July 1969. . Large-format vintage chromogenic print, 20.2 x 25.3 cm, on 'A Kodak', [NASA negative number AS11-40-5903].
The most iconic picture taken on the Apollo 11 Mission. Astronaut Buzz Aldrin, lunar module pilot, stands in a crater as Neil Armstrong takes his photograph using a camera strapped to his chest. We see not only Apollo 11 reflected in Aldrin's visor, but also Neil Armstrong himself. This makes this photograph especially interesting - Neil Armstrong took all the photos thus Aldrin is invariably the subject, not Armstrong, the mission commander and the first man to step onto the moon.
'Apollo 11 on the Moon - Astronaut Edwin E. Aldrin Jr., lunarmodule pilot, walks on the surface of the Moon near the leg of the Lunar Module during the Apollo 11 extravehicular activity. Astronaut Neil A. Armstrong, commander, took this photograph with a 70 mm lunar surface camera' (Text on the reverse).
