Mobile, Alabama : Reed & Wallace Cabinet card depicting Osh-Tisch " Find Them and Kills Them" (left) and his wife. The first portrait of an American Indian berdache ( a man who chose to dress and live as a woman), and the earliest (and the only contemporary ) picture of an Indian woman-warrior. John H. Fouch made this portrait, which he gave the unfortunate title "Squaw Jim, and His Squaw", a year after the Battle of Rosebud Creek (1876), where Find Them and Kills Them earned her name.by killing a Sioux warrior in defense of a fallen Crow warrior named Bull Snake. Fouch is best known for his portrait of Chief Joseph of the Nez Perce. A Fine photograph, image size 5 5/8" x 3 7/8", mounted and published by Reed & Wallace, Mobile, AL. No date, circa 1890s ( Reed & Wallace are listed as being operative in the 1890s by Langdon's List of 19th & Early 20th Century Photographers). No identifying title or photographer noted on card.. The 1856 letter 15" x 10", folded in half to make 4 pp., approx. 300 words, with small blindstamp top left corner depicting an eagle. The earlier letter is headed "September 18th 1855 Naperville Dupage County Illinois" and ends "Michael direct your letters Nevada County, Nevada post office, California". George writes to his brother Michael in Naperville that he has "seen a good dele sins i rote you they last letter", including a hundred "inshins" and some "Buffellow".
