Henry Stevens. 1900. 8vo. 24cm, lii,180p., cloth, attractively printed, deckled edges, original dark maroon cloth, gilt titles borders and vignette decorations on the spine and upper cover, a fine bright copy. (Atl). Provenance: W.A. Munn's copy "signed and date on the front free fly. 1937". Munn a business man, he was a keen student of Newfoundland history and was one of the guiding figures in the Newfoundland Historical Society. He published several books and articles on Newfoundland history. Besterman 1077. Bibliographical descriptions of 579 items. 'A description of every publication which has noticeably influenced the popular or the scholarly conceptions of John and Sebastian Cabot.' - The forty-four page "Introductory Essay" is excellent. Penrose, p. 347; Stillwell, No. 685; Morison, EDA/NV, p. 193: "..lists all earlier works, with sapient evaluations, states where original texts of the above letters may be found, and in his introduction untangles some of the puzzles about Sebastian.
