About This Item

London: Opposite Burlington House, Piccadilly.: J Debrett, 1792. First Edition . Boards. Very Good. 12mo - over 6¾" - 7¾" tall. 1792, VG, 1st ed. In modern half green, soiled contemporary green marble boards. Spine, gilt tooling and title. Lacks half title, [3], (vi-vii). [1], [1], 2-127 pp, [1] adverts, some light offsetting & edge browning, pencil name to tp, hinges strenghtened, some marginal notes. Has an interesting list of the Bishops of Bangor and another list of the Rectories, Vicarages and Chapels in the County of Caernarvon, with their dedications, Saint days and Patrons. A genuine rarity! (Anderson 345. ESTC T93147). Title continues: Intended as a pocket companion to those who make the tour of that County. Owen, Church of England clergyman and antiquary, was a stubborn and cantankerous character, & was severely reprimanded by Lord Bulkeley and had to make a public apology to the bishop of Bangor. The dean of Bangor made him perpetual curate of Llanfihangel Ysgeifiog and Llanffinan in November 1790, and he was given the rectory of Mellteyrn with Botwnnog in October 1800.
