The original wrappers are bound in to the front and rear. The leather has a little rubbing to it, with very slight cracking to the front hinge. A little foxing to the end papers. The original covers are beautiful clean examples. The rest of the book is clean and tidy. Engraved frontis of Benjamin Constant aged six years. This copy is on Hollande paper. 130 pages. Benjamin Constant, was a Swiss-French political activist and writer on political theory and religion. First posthumous edition of this autoboiography. Benjamin Constant talks about his studies at the University of Edinburgh, where he met the British philosopher and politician James Mackintosh, as well as the Scottish historian Malcolm Laing. He mentions his stays in Paris with the couple of writers Amélie and Jean Baptiste Antoine Suard, his brief meeting with the future wife of Emmanuel de Pastoret, and details the beginnings of his relationship with Isabelle de Charrière.
