Thin quarto. x, [64]pp. Frontis portrait of Commodore Stockton, four facsimile color lithographs, 5 facsimile documents. Handset Bauer Bodoni type. Black cloth spine, gilt-stamped blue boards, paper spine label. A very fine and bright copy with plain blue dust jacket (darkened at edges). Includes Larkin's report on conditions in California on the eve of the Conquest; a contemporary account of events printed in "The Farthest West," 1846; a letter from E. M. Kern giving contemporary views of a participant in the early stages of the Conquest; and a letter from Lieut. Colonel Cooke in command of the Mormon Battalion. The Argonaut Book Shop was founded in 1941 in the middle of the financial district of San Francisco. The Argonaut was a founding member of the Antiquarian Booksellers\' Association of America and has been a member in good standing ever since. The Shop is now located just three blocks from Union Square in downtown San Francisco and is open six days a week. Parking facilities include ample street space and a parking garage close by.
