About This Item
London: Adam and Charles Black, 1914. First Edition. Hardcover. Very good/Very good. One of the best titles in the Black's Beautiful Books series. Palmer's vibrant illustrations nicely compliment Austin's vivid descriptions of some of California's best natural scenery, including Monterey Bay, the Central Valley, and Yosemite. 32 tipped-in color plates by Sutton Palmer, with a folding map. Octavo. Beautifully bound in full green cloth, with lovely art nouveau pictorial decorations designed by Henry Hunt Clark on the spine and front board. Internally crisp and clean, with a period bookseller's label (Paul Elder) to the rear pastedown. The boards are bright and vibrant. In the exceedingly uncommon dust jacket, which is edgeworn and a bit chipped with a few small spots.
