Autobiography/memoir of leading attorney and banker Jackson Alpheus Graves (1852-1933) who moved to Los Angeles in 1875. Book describes Graves's boyhood and education in Northern California, and Los Angeles from the days he arrived in 1875 ... the politics, the position of Hispanic citizens, conflicting land claims, railroad interests, the legal profession, social life, and farming, all brought to life with many ancedotes. After 1904, the volume centers on his work as vice president and president of the Farmers & Merchants Bank, and interest in the citrus and petroleum industries.
