About This Item

Published by Victor Gollancz, London; 1983. 8vo. 143pp. Reissue. Condition: Fine/Fine.

Bound in black cloth boards with title in gilt to the spine. The binding is square and tight and in near perfect condition, free from marks or wear, save a touch of bumping to the spine ends and corners. Inside, the pages are clean and bright and with no blemishes or wear and just a touch of toning to the edges.

This beautiful book is housed in its original, first issue dust jacket. The jacket is vibrant and bright and in very smart condition, with no wear or damage to note, save perhaps the slightest hint of bumping to the spine ends.

In all, this is a lovely example of this edition of le Carre's first novel. It sees the introduction of George Smiley, probably the greatest figure in all of spy fiction. It was widely acclaimed and was adapted into a film entitle "The Deadly Affair", directed by Sidney Lumet and starring Jason Mason as Smiley. It was nominated for 5 Baftas including Best British Film and Best British Actor.
