From dust jacket: Call me Captain describes civil aviation from the inside...no airman in fiction has ever been like Saracen. More villain than hero, he pursues his one great obsession through as amiable a treble life as any man could want: with a girl on either side of the Atlantic Route and a black-haired, blue-eyed stewardess thrown in near the centre. Selfish, egotistic, an incorrigible liar, rarely falling down on an opportunity to take anything that’s going, or missing a chancce to make use of other people, he still cannot manage to attain the main aim of his existence. Balanced on a precarious tight-rope that seems to go on and an towards an ever-receding goal, it is to his credit that only towards the end does he begin to wobble, is all but off. At the eleventh hour, however, with the help of his side-kick Sid, he succeeds in saving his aerial soul in the most dishonourable way possible, and establishes himself once more in the favour of his Mistress Moon. This is the lighter side of civil aviation -- conceived out of that perennial headache of all airline operators, the First Officer problem. Or from the point of view of the right-hand seat, the understandable desire of every pilot to paddle his own canoe. Call me Captain shows what is absent from the papers and the news: that surrounded though he may be by such marvellous sleek sky monsters, man is still the same old human being.

Slicker, is one of about 450 qualified members of the Antiquarian Booksellers Association of America, Inc., and its affiliate the International League of Antiquarian Booksellers. He was also the founding president of the the Florida Antiquarian Booksellers Association and is still an active member and committee chairman. In addition to keeping regular hours at the storefront location, Lighthouse Books participate as a vender in about a dozen book fairs, antiques shows, map fairs and related events each year. One such show is The Florida Antiquarian Book Fair, an annual trade show/charity benefit held in downtown St. Petersburg in the spring, that has become the oldest and largest antiquarian book fair in the Southeast; Slicker has served as Chair since its inception thirty years ago.
