New York: Reynal & Hitchcock, [1947].. Yellow cloth. Very minor soiling in a few isolated spots along the top portion of the cloth, otherwise about fine in very good dust jacket with 4 cm creased tear at top edge of the rear panel and very shallow losses at the spine ends. First edition of the poet's first book, an elaboration upon his Master's Thesis, born from over a decade's research (with particular attention to Melville's marginalia) and long-standing access to primary materials associated with his friendship with the Melville heirs.
