About This Item

Boston, MA: Little, Brown & Company, 2018. First Edition. First Printing.. Hardcover. As New/As New Dust Jacket.. Boston, MA: Little, Brown & Company, 2018. Hardcover. As New/As New. First Edition/First Printing. 260 pages. The author's ninth collection of essays and short stories. His most mature achievement. The First Hardcover Edition. Precedes and should not be confused with all other subsequent editions. Published in a small and limited first print run as a hardcover original only. The First Edition is now scarce. "Signed By The Author" red sticker pasted in front. Presents David Sedaris' "Calypso". The dependable humorist become poignant memoirist. "When he buys a beach house on the Carolina coast, Sedaris envisions long, relaxing vacations spent playing board games and lounging in the sun with those he loves most. And life at the Sea Section, as he names the vacation home, is exactly as idyllic as he imagined, except for one tiny, vexing realization: It's impossible to take a vacation from yourself. Sets his formidable powers of observation toward middle age and mortality. Make no mistake: These stories are very, very funny. But much of the comedy is born out of the vertiginous moment when your own body betrays you, and you realize that the story of your life is made up of more past than future" (Publisher's blurb) . An absolute "must-have" title for David Sedaris collectors. This Autographed Copy is very prominently, neatly, and beautifully signed in black pen-marker on the title page by David Sedaris. It is signed directly on the page itself, not on a tipped-in page. But that is NOT what makes this signed copy unique: It also comes with a lovely 5 X 3 inch "Calypso"-branded bookplate that is very prominently and beautifully signed in black pen-marker by David Sedaris. It is neatly pasted on the front free endpaper. This title is a great collection. As far as we know, this is the only such double-signed copy of the First Hardcover Edition/First Printing available online and is in especially fine condition: Clean, crisp, and bright. It is the single most beautiful signed copy we have ever seen. Please note: Copies available online have very serious flaws (because they were read) or are in multiple subsequent printings. This is surely an accessible and lovely alternative. A rare double-signed copy thus. One of the most brilliant American writers of our time. A fine collectible copy. About Modern Rare

ModernRare.com is exclusively an online bookstore. We believe this is the best way to satisfy our customers' expectations. Unlike an open bookstore, where books are routinely handled and may deteriorate, we guarantee the condition of our books as described. We specialize in modern firsts, photography, the arts, and erotica. You will also find a fine selection of signed copies, limited editions, and memorabilia because our ultimate goal is to deepen the pleasure of collecting books. We carry titles that we ourselves like and believe in -- books that we think will excite, enchant, and endure.
