Each 24.5 × 16.5cm. xix + 759pp, and xiii + 309pp. Volume VII from Cambridge's History of the British Empire, these two volumes covering Australia and New Zealand. The Australian history starts with a description of the environment, then on to the first British settlement in 1783, and with comprehensive descriptions of, amongst other topics, the discovery of gold, self-governance, the Western Pacific, economic and political development, the Commonwealth, the Great War, cultural development, and so on. The New Zealand volume studies the Maoris, Captain Cook, missionaries and the Maoris, the Maori Wars 1843-1871, the Great War etc. Condition: The spines are tanned and there's a little light rubbing to the boards but the contents are in very good condition, with secure binding and clean pages.
