Cambridge: Macmillan & Co, 1881. Hardcover. Very Good. Folio bound in blue leather; original blue cloth sides with gilt pictorial (Hobson's Conduit) and lettering; board margins are raised leather with gilt rules. Cloth a bit scuffed; worn spot at foot of spine. Previous owner's name on flyleaf. Six page letterpress introduction with historic and illustrative notes for each engraving, by John Willis Clarke. 40 x 28 cm. A handsome collection of views of Cambridge, England, drawn and etched by the Cambridge native Robert H. Farren (1832-1910). 25 engraved plates, each with its own etched title page. Also, there are engraved pictorials for the title-page, dedication page, the head of the Introduction, and the table of contents page, plus three smaller pictorials in the front. Tissues are missing for the table of contents and two of the plate title pages. Some tissues have dusty edges. Previous owner's name at head of flyleaf. Gerry Frank was an American soldier from Oregon who fought in the European theater during World War II. After the war he remained in England and attended Cambridge University, where he received a bachelor's degree in economics and a master's degree in politics.
