About This Item
London: Printed by J. B. for Joseph Wild, 1701. Hardbound. Bindings are Fine. Dampstaining in vol. 1, primarily to fore-edge margins, but more extensively at the beginning of the book & affecting the 1st 2 maps; dampstaining throughout vol. 2, edges of a few leaves at the back of vol. 2 torn & chipped, with no loss of ptg. Both are solid and crisp, but there is some old soiling here and there, in addition to the staining.. New leather bindings and applied spine labels, five raised bands, new endpapers. 2-volume set, each volume with a portrait frontis, Vol. 1: 466 pp., 24 folding maps. Vol. 2: pp. 467-822, followed by 103 pp., 38 (of a possible 39?) folding maps section on Scotland, and an index to the whole. Numerous folding maps. All maps present, a very rare set of books. Please inquire for more details regarding the condition or for photos. The books measure 4.8" x 7.9" and are quite thick. In volume 2, Vol. 2 seems to call for 37 maps. The map of Richmondshire is lacking, the map of the Principality of Wales is bound out of order. Also, the last called-for map (British Islands) is not one map, but three maps (Man, Jarsey, Garnsey). This means there are [(37-2)+ (3)] maps in this volume, for a total of 38.
