About This Item

(LOUISIANA REGIMENTAL). OWEN, William Miller. In Camp and Battle with the Washington Artillery of New Orleans: A Narrative of Events during the Late Civil War from Bull Run to Appomattox and Spanish Fort. Boston: Ticknor and Company, 1885. 1st ed. 8vo. xv, [3], 467pp., plates, maps. Orig. gilt-pictorial cloth rebacked with new endpapers and with spine laid down. Spine toned. Corners rubbed. It seems the dedication leaf (p. 7/8) was inserted ahead of preface instead of after it when the book was rebacked, nevertheless, complete with all plates and maps present. Very good. Dornbusch II, 436. "This is the most read, most relied on, most quoted account of Louisiana's Confederate soldiers" In Tall Cotton, 136. "The unchallenged champion of Louisiana soldier's narratives; packed with color, drama, personal incidents, and battle descriptions, this volume is a Confederate classic" Nevins I, p.140.
