Franklin Square, New York: Harper & Brothers, 1890. First edition. Hardcover. Very good -. 295 pp. Duodecimo. [19 cm]. Blue cloth over boards with gilt stamped title and illustration on front cover and gilt stamped title on spine. With a black and white illustrated frontispiece of Major-General George Crook. Head and tail of spine are scuffed with boards peeking through. Corners bumped, pages foxed. Front hinge cracked. Previous owner's stamp on front free end paper. Illustrated.

Captain Charles King was born of a prominent New York family, with his grandfather serving as President of Colombia University and his great grandfather having been one of the signers of the U.S. Constitution. King had an illustrious military career and fought in the Indian Wars under George Crook. He later became well known for his military writings and his screenplays written for Buffalo Bill's silent films. Decker 712.
