Privately Printed, 1941., Montreal:, 1941. Limited Edition. First Private And Limited Edition, one of approximately 300 to 400 copies. Small Quarto, xxx, 257pp. + 4 leaves. Publisher's bevelled edge gilt-lettered crimson morocco, colour decoration of the crest of the Dominion of Canada to the front cover, gilt dentelles, all edges gilt, with illustrated endpapers; numerous line drawings, 9 maps, one colour illustrated vignette title page, with lovely colour plates from paintings by Stanley Royle, Chas. W. Jeffreys, W. J. Phillips. A. Sheriff Scott, F. H. Varley, H. R. Perrigard, James Crockart, T. M. Schintz, & Ernst Neuman. A stunning copy of the very uncommon limited edition.
The regular trade edition was an enormous publishing effort by Canadian standards, about 600,000 copies were printed with the intention to distribute copies to all the schools in Canada but was withdrawn because it was financed by Seagrams whose public relations efforts fell very short of their goals. The book however is a very substantial & informative work. [22-30694]
