About This Item

"ON CANADA'S FRONTIER" by Julian Ralph. 1892 1st edition; Harper & Brothers; New York. The book is richly illustrated with drawings throughout, some of which are full-page. "Sketches of the History, Sport, and Adventure and of the Indians, Missionaries, Fur-Traders, and Newer Settlers of Western Canada." The contents are as follows: Titled Pioneers; Chartering a Nation; A Famous Missionary; Antoine's Moose-Yard; Big Fishing; "A Skin for a Skin"; "Talking Musquash"; Canada's El Dorado; Dan Dunn's Outfit.

Condition:
Light soiling to the covers. The spine has an ID label affixed at the bottom, and the letter "A" handwritten in yellow. There are a couple tiny cloth tears at the top of the spine. Tight binding with no loose pages. Partial crack at the rear hinge between the end paper and pastedown 2" up from the bottom edge. The rear pastedown has some light staining, bits of paper remnanat affixed, and a diagonal card sleeve at the bottom-right corner (a tanned outline of the sleeve appears on the opposing end paper). The rear end paper has a 1" piece missing at the outer edge. Bits of paper remnants affixed to the front pastedown. The front end paper has "1492" written in ink, a name/address label affixed, and an embossed "Ashton Library Association" stamp (the embossed stamp also appears on the back of the frontispiece). The pages are lightly age-toned with occasional stains and foxing spots (primarily to pages at the front). Overall the book is in Good- condition.
