Copper-line engraving, 1754. 210mm by 150mm (platemark). From Prevost's 'Histoire Generale des Voyages', 1754 edition.
This is the first image of the Swan River and depicts the Vlamingh expedition entering the Swan River in 1696.
It is a copy of the engraving by F. Valentijn and taken from 'Oud en Nieuw Oost-Indien' published in 1726. This is a later edition engraved by Jacob van der Schley, taken from Antoine-François Prevost's monumental 25 volume travel book titled, 'L'Histoire Generale des Voyages', 1754 edition.
CONDITION : No platemark on left hand side. Faint off-setting across the centre of the image. Faint foxing spot in lower margin. Slight waviness to the paper.
