Original cream cloth, lettered and ornamented in gilt and blind, top edge gilt; pp. vi, [2], 172, [3, advertisements]; 20 colour-plates with captioned tissue guards, one folding map; a very good copy apart from even light browning to endpapers and minimal spotting to half-title, a near-fine copy. First edition, distinguished from later printings by the presence of tissue guards. All variant bindings are later issues and contain fewer plates. Inman 133.
