Quarter vellum over marbled boards; spine lettered in gilt; outer and lower edges untrimmed; printed on blue paper; pp. 12, 70; with 11 facsimilies and a folding plate; light rubbing to extremities of boards; slight bumping to top edge of lower board; bookplate to front fly-leaf, Provenance: William Delafield; light spotting and discolouration to outer margins; a very good copy of a specialised, in depth account of cancels in book binding. First edition, limited to a print run of 500 copies. An in-depth study of this bibliographic particularity, driven to the extreme, but without cancel title. Third volume in the series Bibliographia. Studies in Book History and Book Structure 1750-1900, edited by Michael Sadleir. Provenence: Dealfield was a book collector, farmer, philanthropist and recluse.
