Additionally, it was a Kirkus Editor's Choice, and made the Horn Book's Honor List, the New York City 100 Titles for Reading and Sharing list, the Publishers Weekly Best Books of the Year list, the School Library Journal Best Books of the Year list, the Chicago Tribune Best Books of 2003 list, and the Washington Post Best Books of 2003 list.
