About This Item

London Missionary Society, London, 1892. First Edition. Hardcover (Embossed Cloth). Good Condition/No Dust Jacket. Illustrator: Illustrated. List of illustrations. Black and white photographic frontispiece of author, with a slightly browned and spotted tissue guard. The text is illustrated with numerous black-and-white illustrations and photographs. Blue coloured cloth covered boards which have been decorated with black coloured embossed titles and illustrations to the front panel and back strip; with, gilt coloured embossed titles to the back strip. An account of the author's missionary work taken among the Cree and Salteaux Native Americans in the late 19th century. As the title suggests a lot of his travel was by canoe and dog-train; and there is a fair amount of anthropological observations of the native people that he met. Softening and a little rubbing of the back strip edges with rubbing of the book corners. Some sunning to the extreme edges of the book with noticeable sunning of the back strip. Light browning and faint foxing of the text block edges with age toning in the occasional foxing spots to the pages. Foxing is more present to the first few and last few pages of the book. Prize plate affixed to the front paste-down with a date of 1893. Previous owners name to the top edge of the free front end page. Size: 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. [5], VI - X, [1], 2 - 262 pages,. Please refer to accompanying picture (s). Illustrator: Illustrated. Quantity Available: 1. Shipped Weight: Under 1 kilo. Category: Religion & Theology; United States; 19th century; Indigenous Cultures. Inventory No: 0288939. .
