Gilt top edge, clean interior, with several pages showing light foxing. The rare dust jacket has light chipping on edges and small piece (see scan) missing from spin. Signed and inscribed by author. Laid in are three photographs: First of Powell plaque at Grand Canyon with flag from Powell's 1871-72 expedition and copy of this book in photo, inscription on back with said information in Dellenbaugh's hand. Second photo shows Mr. And Mrs. Frederick Dellenbaugh at same memorial with flag and book in hand--photo copyrighted by Kolb Brothers, also with inscription in Dellenbaugh's hand. Finally third photo is of 1831 Denis Julien inscription with text on back possibly in Charles Kelly's hand. Collated complete. Color frontis, folding maps, [xx], 277, [4] adverts. This narrative from the official artist and topographer of the Second Powell Expedition contains many black and white photograph plates from E. O. Beaman, the expedition's photographer. Dellenbaugh was only seventeen at the time of the expedition and here provides the most in-depth illustrated description of the expedition only briefly summarized by Powell himself.
