About This Item
Boston: Houghton, Mifflin & Co, 1902. First, Limited Edition. First printing, first issue, one of only 55 copies issued thus (see note below). Small octavo. Dark green cloth hardcover with printed paper spine label; [6],171,[3]pp. Fore- and bottom edges of text block untrimmed. Gentle fading to cloth at extremities of boards; spine label somewhat darkened; still a tight, Very Good and unmarked copy. With the engraved bookplate of Alfred T. Haskell, Boston confectioner and bibiophile (bookplate designed by E.B. [Elisha Brown] Bird, signed in plate).
Robinson's third published poetry collection. The whole edition consisted of 500 copies, of which 125 copies were set aside and bound up for the limited first edition. Of these, 67 copies were later rebound and issued with a cancel title page with no limitation statement on verso. Thus, only fifty-five copies of the initial limited issue actually exist, making this one of the scarcest of Robinson's books. See HOGAN pp.4-5.
