1945. London, Eyre & Spottiswoode. 1945. Royal 8vo. Original fine cream cloth-covered boards lettered in green, in pictorial yellow dustwrapper; pp. [48]; printed throughout on various coloured papers including pink, yellow, blue and grey; illustrated on every page; an excellent copy in a similarly fresh dustwrapper with one small nick to top edge of lower panel, minimal dusting, and a tiny pictorial label to inner upper flap. First thus, strictly the second edition, and the first to be issued with coloured plates. The majority of the first printing of this Peake classic was destroyed in a bombing raid during World War II. At the end of the war Peake reissued his pirate story in this superior edition with the drawings printed on coloured stock.
