About This Item

New York: Dodd Mead & Company, 1932. 8vo size dark green clothbound hardcover with silver titles on the spine; 421 toned pages with some black and white illustrations on glossy stock. Carl Schurz was a German-born American statesman, who served as United States Senator and Secretary of the Interior. He was also a well-known speaker and journalist and the first German-born person to be elected a United States Senator. Ex-library with typical treatments; this volume was professionally rebound in 1985 and the new binding is in great condition. Pages up to page 5 have a small tear in the bottom margin. Some pages have been mended with cello tape which has discolored and caused some transfer tanning to other pages. Pages 5-9 have a very light spot. There is a small spot in the bottom of pages 72/73. There is a half inch tear to the bottom margin of pages 189/190. Pages 312 has a penciled "x" and the illustration opposite also has an "x" in the bottom margin and a spot or fingermark in the far margin. We noted some stray pen or pencil marks on pages 310/311 along with fingermarks in the margin on both pages. There is a spot in the margin of pages 349-360. There is a light stain in the bottom margin of page 395. . Cloth. Good/No Jacket. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. Ex-Library.
