Padua: Giuseppe Comino, 1725. 4to. pp. xxiiii, 366, [1 leaf]. woodcut ornaments. engraved printer’s device on title. later sprinkled calf (front cover detached, rear joint cracked, internally fine and fresh). from the library of the Dukes of Devonshire with Chatsworth Library bookplate. First Comino Edition. Included here, in addition to the ‘Carminum’, are a number of Volpi’s other writings, his lives of Navagero and Sannazaro, dedications and prefaces to the works of Navagero, Faerno, Fracastoro and Sannazario, as well as works by Checoti, Zanotti, &c. Volpi, a classical scholar, Latin poet, and professor of rhetoric and philosophy at Padua, was also a printer, and established, in conjunction with Giuseppe Comino, a press called ‘Libreria Volpi-Cominiana’, which issued excellent editions of the classics. cfBrunet V 1352. cfGraesse VII 390n.. 1st Edition.
