1937. J.P. (John Peter) Laux became a Master Mechanic in 1915 for the Lehigh Railway and rose to Superintendent of Motive Power when Lehigh RR was its highest. He produced this manuscript of which there are no known original copies there are 57 hand mounted photographs in the basic engines and concludes with the Locomotive Ownership by year, 1856-1936. The Average Tractive Force in 1921 was 37,621 lbs but by 1936 it had increased to 51, 293 lbs. The No. 5100 was delivered in 1931 as a class T-1 (two were delivered, Richard Duley notes Baldwin also delivered later at Class T-1a). This original work complements minor details in Duley's significant contribution. There are no copies on OCLC. Since the age of steam ended, these magnificent workhorses were often scrapped. Good copy of an influentual work on surveying and cartography by the one of the best Dutch surveyors Jan Pietersz. Dou (1615-1682) together with Johannes Sems (1572-before 1652) and published by the famous Dutch cartographer and publisher Willem Jansz. Blaeu (1571-1638). Simon The first edition was published in 1600 and Simon Stevin used this work for training engineers in all the aspects of surveying. Our copy is not as usual bound together with Sybrant Hansz' geometrical 'questions and answers', as mentioned is on the first title, but with another work by Dou, that was first published in 1620. This 'Tractaet vant maken ende gebruycken ...' describes his newly invented surveying instrument, the socalled 'Cirkel van Dou' or 'Hollandse Cirkel', that would become the most used Dutch surveying instrument for over 200 years. Some signs of use, mainly in the beginning (occ. thumbed), but - A good copy.
