About This Item
Simon and Schuster/ Inner Sanctum, NY, 1930; First Simon & Schuster Edition; 12mo, 187 pages plus 5 pages of critical blurbs at the back. Arthur Schnitzler’s intriguing novel of Casanova’s later years when, due to advancing age the legendary lover was forced into a new career as a professional spy. Published under Simon and Schuster’s Inner Sanctum New Novels imprint. Notice at the front explaining that although the avowed purpose of the Inner Sanctum series was to present foreign novels never before printed in English, the publishers nevertheless felt justified including "Casanova’s Homecoming" as part of the lineup because the earlier English edition had had little readership due to an extraordinarily small total printing. Very Good, in illustrated self-wraps. Clean, crisp, sharp, no chips or tears, spine panel moderately tanned.
