Bright,crisp,clean with minor faint blemishes,vibrant colour pictorial artwork by Sam Peffer (PEFF), illustrated font cover with b/w lettering,lightly concave spine/backstrip with lightly dulled white letters and PAN logo+No. to foot and NO reading creases to same,rear panel yellow background with red+black lettered story synopsis. [The cover art is based on a posed photo of Kitty Peffer.] Negligible shelf-wear, bumping,creasing to edges and corners - both front corners with faint creases - but no nicks,tears or splits present.Top edges aged/toned with minimal sporadic spotting,fore-edges less aged/toned,so slightly brighter and without foxing; contents bright,tight, clean,solid and sound - no dog-ear reading creases to any pages' corner tips - unread apart from my own collation.UK,12mo p/back,1st edn,5-185pp [paginated] includes author's foreword,23 chapters; plus [unpaginated] half-title+title pages and to the rear 6pp publisher's adverts for other PAN titles.

A highly collected and prolific author,and usual item in Gardner's typical style,an important and welcome addition to the canon.
Samuel John Peffer (known as PEFF),b. 3rd November, 1921 – d. 14th March,2014) was a British commercial artist who designed film posters,and paperback book covers.His best known work was for the covers of the paperback James Bond novels published by PAN BOOKS LTD.,in the 1950s and 1960s,for which he created a consistent and distinctive style.He went freelance around 1954.He was noticed by the Pan Books art buyer,Tony Bowen-Davies,and during the 1950s and 1960s,he painted hundreds of book covers, including from 1957,particularly the Fleming novels 'Casino Royale','Moonraker','From Russia with Love' and 'Dr. No.',all for Pan,as well as many Christie novels.
