Leningrad [St. Petersburg]: Self-Published, 1990. Assumed First Edition . Stapled Wraps. Near Fine. 9.5" X 13. The outstanding composer Dmitri Smirnov, who studied with Denisov in Moscow, emigrated to England in 1991, the year after writing this haunting work for mixed chorus a cappella. It was composed for the "Lege Artis" Chamber Choir and its Director Boris Abalyan, setting five Symbolist poems by Innokenty Annensky (1855-1909), from his second book, The Cypress Casket (1910): I - Traumerei (reverie); II - Rushing stream and dark carriage; III - Phantoms; IV - Old manor; V - Melancholy pendulum. 42 pages - texts in Russian only. ***NOTE: If you want more than four copies, I have also (as of July 2010) listed three more sets here at ABE - of 4, 4, and 3 copies respectively. I will then adjust the total default shipping charge to equal the actual cost of mailing.*** CONDITION: these are unmarked, uncreased copies with negligible shelf-wear, compromised by an occasional mis-aligned and/or slightly rusted spine staple. The set is now in a clear, protective polypropylene bag with archival backing board.
