About This Item
New York: Harper & Row, Publishers, 1969. Hardcover. 42p., detailed drawings throughout, first book publication (after an early version in a 1963 New Yorker magazine appearance), hardbound "library edition" in 8.5.5 inch boards decorated with an excellent wraparound sketch - and enclosed in the dust jacket, which is decorated similarly. The dust jacket has taken a beating, with edgewear, marginal nicks, and an inch-across chip at its heel, while book itself is unscathed. Author Steele has inscribed and signed the half-title. Altogether a very good copy. Story of a remarkable teacher and her cat, pouring fresh black coffee for her five-year-old students, they kept that a secret (at least from their parents). Also that teacher's final lesson was "how to kill a cat", which she demonstrated, after her cat had been savaged by dogs and could not recover.
