About This Item

London: Abelard, 1959. First Edition. Hard Cover. Dust Jacket. (London ; New York; Toronto: Abelard-Schuman 1959). First UK Edition with price of 11s 6d net to the inside flap (as called for). Publisher's blue boards with silver lettering to the spine. A fine copy in a VG dustwrapper that is heavily rubbed/ worn at corners/ tips of spine with short tears (up to 2cm) and minor loss (0.2 - 1cm) here and there. N.B: basis for the 1965 British horror film of the same name directed by Gordon Hessler and starring Gary Merrill and Georgina Cookson and Jane Merrow. It was known in the USA as "The Woman Who Wouldn't Die". "A sadly obscure but effectively sinister and compelling horror/mystery, with stellar performances, stupendous fright-moments, and an ingenious climax". N.N.B: Although the author was American, I can find no record of this book ever being published in the USA. The first edition is uncommon in our experience. Photographs/scans available upon request.
