1889. Hardcover. VG, with the booklate of Newhouse Gallery in each volume, as well as the signature of "Albert Smith, New York" in each volume.. Red cloth and boards. Volume 1, the larger volume, features modern works and has paper-covered boards. Volume 2, featuring Old Masters, is entirely bound in cloth. In total, 181 pp. 100+ bw beautiful plates. A 16-page preface precedes a two-volume catalogue of crisp, lovely plates, all formerly in the collection of E. Secrétan, and sold at this auction. Each work is annotated after its plate, tissue guards intact. A great collection of old masters and 'modern' artists. Second edition, two volumes as opposed to the first edition (Our inventory number) 14275, which is one compilation volume in leather. This edition also has a handwritten ledger (on Knoedler & Company stationary) of auction prices realized, in beautiful 19th century script on loose pages, tucked inside the cover.
