New York: Messrs. Leavitt, Auctioneers, 1877. Thick 8vo.  268 x 180 mm., [10 ½ x 7 ¼ inches].  iv, 563 pp. 8,145 lots.  Original printed wrappers; paper wrappers soiled, chipped at spine and torn in places at the edges; good copy in original condition. Both Hastie and Tracy were civil engineers who worked on the construction of the Croton Aqueduct during the middle years of the 19th century.  Hastie's collection include 192 different editions of the Bible as well 91 editions of the Shakespeare's works and Shakespeareana, and 82 editions of Milton's works.  In addition he and Tracy collected Americana. Angling, bibliography, classics, black letter and early printed books, privately printed books, and books on the fine arts. A distinguishing characteristic of this catalogue is the quality of paper used and the beauty of the typography.  It was printed by E. O Jenkins of North Williams Street, New York.  Many of the descriptions have annotations offering copy specific information on many of the books. McKay, American Book Auction Catalogues, 2184.
