About This Item
Paris: Librairie Bachelin-Deflorenne , 1875. First Edition, with contemporary annotations showing prices achieved. A paper label shows that this copy was for Monsieur Pavet, and that he was to received a volume bound in half red leather and with papier Agathe (which this copy is). The majority of the catalogues were softback, so Monsieur Pavet must have been a valued customer. American citizen, the owner of this collection, Mr. Benzon, ran the house of Naylor, Benzon & Cie in London. He died two years before his library went on sale. Many of the books he purchased were from the Henry Bordes collection, who wrote catalogue entries for much of this sale (signified by his initials after the entry). The sale comprised 400 items, and against each, is the price achieved (in pencil) Red half calf with gilt titles. Brown marbled boards. A little rubbing and dulling to the spine and edges, with a touch of loss to the corners of the boards. Internally in very good condition, with a little darkening and a few scattered marks only. viii, 104. pp. 245 x 170 mm.
