Tiny chips and two small tears repaired with archival tape; ink numbers on wrapper and title page. . 8vo,. Cowan II, p. 110: "It was mainly through this book exhibit that Mrs. Phoebe Hearst became interested in the institution." Item 292 records the earliest known printing done in California, "Anuncia a los Californios su llegada," printed on a "blanket" without the aid of a printing press. The apparently unique example was subsequently lost, and has not resurfaced.
