Brown leather with gilt tooling, front free endpaper detached but present.

Bookplate of Cholmley Turner (1685-1757) of Kirkleatham on the front pastedown. Turner was a British landowner and politician who sat in the House of Commons between 1715 and 1747. Thomas Walkley (fl. 1618-1658) was a London publisher and bookseller noted for publishing a range of significant texts in English Renaissance drama and other literature. In 1649 the Commonwealth government issued a warrant against him for dispensing royalist material from the sons of the late King Charles I. This very scarce book is a veritable who's who of British nobility published during and shortly after the English Civil War.
