About This Item
London: Longmans, Green, & Co, 1897. New Edition. Hardcover. Good+. This classic of Anglican-Catholic theology
addresses the difficulties that Anglicans face in accepting certain Catholic teachings, such as the authority of the Pope, the doctrine of transubstantiation, and the veneration of saints and relics. Newman argues that these difficulties can be overcome by a deeper understanding of the history and teachings of the Catholic Church, and by recognizing the authority of the Church as a whole. Complete two volume set. 12mo (7 1/4" tall). 400, 378 pp. Brown cloth. From private collection. Cloth show some soiling wear, including 1" split along crown of first volume's upper joint and nick to second volume along edge of board. Binding are a bit limp and pages show a little foxing, mostly limited to prelims.
