First printing, inscribed by the illustrator with an original drawing (echoing the cover image) of this charming color-illustrated picture book. Kellogg has written and/or illustrated more than one hundred children's books. He is a recipient of the Regina Medal for lifetime contribution to children's literature, and his books have won numerous awards such as the Boston Globe-Horn Book Award, the Irma Simonton Black Award, the IRA-CBC Children's Choice Award, and the Parents' Choice Award. In 2011 he donated his archive to the University of Findlay's Mazza Museum. 9'' x 7''. Original quarter beige cloth over yellow boards. In original unclipped ($10.95) color pictorial jacket. Warmly inscribed by Kellogg to verso of the front free endpaper: "For Floyd [drawing of a star] / from your friend / Steven Kellogg." Below Kellogg has added a drawing of a boy singing on a sinking boat. Bright, sharp, and clean overall.
